Working With Credit Bureaus

If you used an attorney for your bankruptcy, as most people do, they may have sent notification of your bankruptcy to the credit bureaus and creditors with a request for post-discharge modification. This is a great first step in the credit repair process, but unfortunately, the credit bureaus are not great at doing things the first time they are asked. We will follow-up with them accordingly.

What Is On Your Credit Report

Doing credit repair after you have had a bankruptcy is probably one of the smartest things you can do for your credit profile. You don't want previous delinquent accounts to show continuous, post-discharge delinquencies. The last delinquent payment should be the month after you filed your case. All lines on your credit report should say "Discharged in Bankruptcy" or "Included in Bankruptcy" and show a zero balance.

Eliminating Credit Report Errors

The information held by Experian, Equifax and TransUnion isn't necessarily as accurate as might be anticipated. It is important that discharged bankrupts check their post bankruptcy credit in case agreements that have already been eliminated continue to show as active. The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives consumers - or an appointed credit repair attorney - the opportunity to correct these issues.
